Movie Minis Volume 2

Hi friends! Those of you that have hung around these parts for a while know how much I love going to the movies. It’s one of my favorite things to do, especially when I can sneak off for a solo adventure. Back in the way before times when the kid was still in preschool, I used to love going to afternoon movies by myself. That tradition is a thing of the past now, but I still try to catch as many movies as I can. I’ve actually seen quite a few since the last Movie Minis post, but I’m going to give you the most recent highlights in case you are looking for a movie to catch!

Everything Everywhere All at Once: If you follow movies at all, then you’ve probably heard good things about this one already and I don’t know that I have more to add to the conversation other than to say this movie was fabulous and I loved it even if I had no idea what was going on half the time. Michelle Yeoh is brilliant and this is one of the best performances I’ve seen in a really long time. If you love movies, this is a must see.

Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness: I wrote a whole post on this one so I won’t say too much more. Essential viewing if you keep up with MCU. but if you don’t you can skip it.

Downton Abbey: A New Era: I literally just started watching Downton Abbey a couple of weeks before this came out and I am obsessed. I’m also big mad that it’s no longer on Netflix. I went to see this one when I was having a tough week and it was everything I needed in the moment: all vibes, no plot. If you need a brain break, or are a Downton fan, this was a great two hour escape.

The Bad Guys: Ah, we’ve entered the season of watching movies I would never pay to see so that the kid and I can escape into the air conditioning for a couple of hours. As far as random kids movies go, this one was fine. There were a couple funny moments, and the story was cute. I also liked that the kickass governor was a female, so that’s cool.

Lightyear: I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one, but I really enjoyed it? It seems to be getting a bad rap, but I found it enjoyable and interesting to watch. The kid liked it too, so no compaints from me!

We’re in the middle of my least favorite movie season: kids films and blockbusters (there was a week there where the only things playing at my theater were movies I’d seen, cartoons, and Top Gun), but hopefully I will find some hidden gems to go see soon! What’s been your favorite recent movie release?
