One Sentence Reviews: December 2020

I’m happy to say, in one way at least, 2020 ended on a good note. I read eighteen books in December, and I really enjoyed most of them. I stuck to mostly romance (shocker) but I did manage to squeeze in a little bit of variety in there. Let’s take a look at what I read in December!

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong: Probably the only real disappointment of this month, I was really looking forward to this book and it just didn’t live up to my expectations. Full review here.

Much Ado About You by Samantha Young: I’m here for all books with Shakespeare references, and luckily this one was super cute! Full review here.

A Princess for Christmas by Jenny Holiday: I love Jenny and I love Christmas books so this was a perfect combo! Full review here.

Among the Beasts and Briars by Ashley Poston: I didn’t know what to expect with this one but it was a delightful fairy tale-esque fantasy. Full review here.

In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren: CLo has been hit or miss for me lately, but luckily this one was a hit! Full review here.

This Is Not the End by Chandler Baker: The concept of this was interesting, but the book itself felt very problematic.

Twelve Dates of Christmas by Jenny Bayliss: For obvious reasons I was into the holiday rom coms this month and this one was cute, but not my favorite of the ones I read.

The Surviving Girls by Katee Robert: In a weird twist considering how much I love Katee’s romances, I liked the murder plot of this one better than the love story.

The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon: I didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did, it was absolutely delightful. Full review here.

The Duke and I by Julia Quinn: This book is problematic AF, but I did enjoy Julia’s writing style.

The Boy Toy by Nicola Marsh: I struggled with this one as I don’t love babies in my romance and I found the writer’s style hard to connect with (lots of telling instead of showing, even though I hate putting it just in those simple terms).

The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins: This was a complete surprise but such a fun and intriguing read!

Written in the Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur: A perfectly perfect love story, all the heart eyes. Full review here.

Untamed by Glennon Doyle: So much of this book resonated with me, and despite feeling bleh about some of the religious stuff, I think I will go back to this one again and again to reread certain passages that felt like a kick in the pants (in a good way).

Scandalous Desires by Elizabeth Hoyt: After bingeing Bridgerton I was in the mood for historical romance, and this one was fine, but I didn’t love it.

Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas: I continue to not really get the Lisa Kleypas love, but this one was on my shelf so I read it and it was okay.

The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn: I definitely liked this one more than Duke and I, still some iffy moments, but I can’t seem to stop reading these books.

Crazy Cupid Love by Amanda Heger: I didn’t think I was going to like this one, but I’m clearing out my TBR backlist, and I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would!

All those good books and no DNFs this month! It’s a Christmas miracle! Stay tuned for lots more reads in 2021!
