Title: Act Your Age, Eve Brown
Author: Talia Hibbert
Sub-genre: Contemporary
Trope(s): forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine
Alright, so I made it very known that I had to hold off on reading this book because when it came out I was in the middle of revisions and reading Talia’s books makes me feel like a terrible writer, which might sound bad, but it’s actually the highest compliment I can pay. And as a big fan of the first two books in this series, I was already pretty in love with Eve, so suffice to say I had high expectations for this book. Luckily, they were most definitely met!
Eve has a reputation in her family of being flighty at best. Not one to stick with a plan, Eve flits from job to job, mostly getting by on her endless charm. But after she decides to quit what seemed like a promising job as an event planner, her parents lay down the law: go get a job or no more trust fund for you. Eve is not happy with this development and takes off on a drive, ending up in some tiny town, where she happens to spot a sign for job interviews at a local B and B. Deciding it must be fate, Eve heads in for an interview, but instantly clashes with the owner of the B and B, Jacob. Eve is endless sunshine and Jacob is the very definition of grumpy. They both realize this is not the best match and Eve returns to her car to head home. Only instead of hitting the road, she hits Jacob. With her car. Breaking his arm and leaving him with a pile of bruises making it next to impossible for him to run the B and B alone. So Eve moves in to help out, and even though they have some personality clashes, they are undoubtedly attracted to each other, and the more they get to know each other, the better they understand the other’s quirks. But both Eve and Jacob have some personal hang ups they will have to overcome if they want to be happy together. And they do, obviously, because that’s how romance works!
Alright, so I think what makes Talia so absolutely magical is her ability to have me laughing out loud, horny AF, and then crying because my heart was just ripped from my chest, all in the span of like twenty pages. Truly, it is amazing how much her writing just pulls me into the story and makes me feel all the things. I have to say, I never look forward to the dark moment, but with these two, I was actively hoping there just wouldn’t be one. I did not want to see Eve and Jacob suffer because they were both just such sweet baby angels and I wanted them to be nothing but happy. (This is the beauty of romance though, yeah? Even though I knew they were going to suffer, I also knew they would be happy in the long run.) I honestly loved everything about this book. The banter between Eve and Jacob was top notch. I am here for a couple who purposefully tries to get at each other. The sexy times in this book are off. the. charts. And these two characters found multiple ways to just punch me in the heart repeatedly. It was perfection and I loved every second of it!
