Alright, so full disclosure before we dive in, Alexa is one of my mentors for Pitch Wars so obviously I’m going to have nice things to say about her book. But one of the main reasons I was dying to work with Alexa is because I love her books! So truly, I would have felt the same about Blitzed even if I weren’t lucky enough to be her mentee.
Brynn is the kickass owner of HERS, the female-centric bar featured in both of Alexa’s first two books, Intercepted and Fumbled. Pretty sure all of us who have read these books want a HERS in our town, ASAP. A bar where I can go watch Real Housewives? Yes please! Brynn is a tough cookie with some trust issues and a rule to never date a pro athlete, but Maxwell is so sweet and charming, he might be worth an exception to her rule. Both Brynn and Maxwell have some family issues they are forced to overcome, which of course, doesn’t make Brynn’s trust issue any easier to deal with. But in the end, they are able to come together and live happily ever after (duh).
One of the reasons I love Alexa’s writing so much is her crazy funny voice. She drops so many hilarious pop culture references in this book, which is basically my drug of choice. Real Housewives? Check. Disney Channel Original Movies? Check. Container Store? Check. (Also, when I tweeted about these awesome references, Container Store started following me so I’m basically famous now.) I laughed out loud SEVERAL times during this read, and honestly, you can’t ask for much more than that.
Of the three Playbook books, I think this one was my favorite. I’ve loved Brynn ever since we very first met her, and she was such a fun character to read about. I also liked that the conflict of this book was more internal than the other two. I love some solid soap opera conflicts as much as the next person, but I also like contemporary novels that are a little more true to life. These felt like real problems that a lot of people have and I was into that. This was a fun, entertaining read and I highly recommend it!
Overall Rating: 5 stars!
