Title: Headliners

Author: Lucy Parker

Sub-genre: Contemporary

Trope(s): Enemies to lovers

Ugh, I love me some Lucy Parker. She is by far one of my favorite contemporary authors, and I one click pre-order every time I see she has a new book out. I was super excited for Headliners because in addition to loving me some Lucy Parker, I also love me some enemies to lovers.

We met Sabrina and Nick in Lucy’s last book, The Austen Playbook, and the set up for their rivalry/enemyhood was pretty epic. (I won’t spoil it here in case you haven’t read TAP yet, which if you haven’t, you should immediately.) So when we check back with Sabrina and Nick, the hatred is strong. But in order for them to save their jobs, they have to work together as presenters on a morning talk show. Neither of them is happy with the situation, but they decide to put their feud on hold so they can save their careers. Unfortunately, someone else is working hard to sabotage their new show, and the two consistently find themselves making huge errors live on the air. Add to that a constant barrage of rumors and headlines in the tabloids, and things aren’t going so well for Sabrina and Nick. Except for their relationship, which starts to blossom as they are forced to work together, leading them to their happily ever after.

One thing I found really interesting about this book is that it doesn’t really have a dark moment for Sabrina and Nick. Once they find their way together, they don’t really ever face that devastating how are they going to come back from this moment. Instead, they have to work together and trust each other to overcome obstacles from outside forces. It kind of threw me off at first because I kept waiting for that big blow up, but actually, I think I really liked how it played out. It was nice to see the couple come together and stay together, and I liked that there wasn’t that moment of saying terrible things to each other.

And as per usual with Lucy Parker books, the whole thing is witty and clever and I am just so obsessed with her voice and her stories. I loved this one just as much as the others in the series, and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next (I think it’s a Great British Baking Show inspired series and I could not be more excited!).

Overall Rating: 4.5 stars
