Sub-genre: Superhero/sci-fi

Trope(s): Childhood friends to enemies(ish) to lovers

So as you know, I loved the first book in this series and was super stoked to pick up books two and three from my favorite bookstore in the world, The Ripped Bodice. Through no fault of its own, this was a tough one for me to get through, but I am making sure to hang on to it so I can go back and reread at a time when I’m not so emotionally fragile.

Aveda Jupiter, formerly known as Annie, was San Francisco’s favorite superhero, until her best friend Evie was forced to take her place, in the meantime coming into powers of her own and stealing the spotlight. Now that Evie is a bona fide town hero, and happily engaged to her super hot bf, Annie is left wondering where her place is in their new superhero/bff duo. When Evie gets engaged and asks Annie to be her maid of honor, Annie vows to be the best MOH the world has ever seen. So it’s kind of a bummer when a supernatural demon thing starts targeting the city’s brides to be. Annie and Evie have to work together to figure out what is happening, and they have to really work together to figure out the new dynamics of their relationship. Through it all, Scott, Annie and Evie’s friend from their childhood, is the only one who truly sees Annie for not just who she is, but who she is trying to be. Of course, Annie is able to save the day, save her friendship, and get the guy.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this book. I love these characters and this world and Sarah’s writing. Now is just maybe not the best time for me to be reading a book so centered on weddings and wedding planning. Given that wedding planning is my day job and that I’m probably going to have to give up this career that I’ve worked really hard for due to COVID, it was just a tough read for me personally. I would one hundred percent recommend this book to anyone who loves superheroes, and anyone looking for a little twist on their romance novels. It was hard for me to read because of my own personal feelings and experiences, but definitely please don’t let that keep you from reading this book. If it were any other time, this would probably be a 5 star read for me, so please go check it out!

Overall Rating: 4 stars based solely on personal enjoyment
