I reviewed the first book in this series, Nightchaser, a while back, and was super excited to pick up this next book and continue the space saga (with kissing!).

Tess, Shade, and the rest of the crew returned in this Star Wars-esque sequel. Honestly, there is a lot of plot stuff that happens, but the main thing is Tess continuing her Robin Hood quest of stealing supplies from the rich and distributing them to the poor. There is a lot more family drama in this one, as Tess has to reconcile her perception of her uncle with the reality of his position, and deal with her unresolved feelings for her dad/not dad, the evil emperor ruler of the galaxy. Tess and Shade also have some romantic struggles going on, since he lied to her in the first book, and they both kept a lot of secrets. Basically, it’s a soap opera in space while fighting bad guys.

I enjoyed this book just as much as I did the first one, though I did have it in my head that this was a duology and this one definitely left room for a third book (which would be exciting, but I hadn’t mentally prepared for that, which is on me). I liked the growing relationships between all of the characters. I’m a sucker for a found family, and this one is great. I probably could have done with a little less detail in some of the battle/take down/space fighting scenes, but the plot was exciting and kept me interested. I liked the added layer of revelation between Tess and her uncle, and I loved the growing trust between Tess and Shade. I wanted more kissing, but that’s practically a given for me these days. I’ll take a book of just kissing, please.

Overall Rating: 4.5 stars
