Fave Reads of the Month: July 2022

Well, I only read thirteen books in July, which is definitely the lowest of the year for me so far, but looking back, I really enjoyed most of them so that at least is some good news. I’m going to be trying really hard over the next couple of months to get my TBR cart under control (it is literally overflowing) so I’m going to need to up my numbers a bit in the coming months! But for now, here are the books I enjoyed from July:

Tanked by Mia Hopkins: Mia does such an excellent job balancing steam with heart and Tanked is no exception. I’ve really enjoyed her Eastside Brewery series and I thought this was a really nice culmination. I’m looking forward to whatever she comes up with next!

The Bride Goes Rogue by Joanna Shupe: Joanna just hits for me every single time. She is another author who balances the sexy times and the emotional times perfectly. I just love her books and all her characters.

Kaikeyi by Vashnavi Patel: This one surprised me a bit because I usually struggle with adult fantasy (I find the world-building to usually be so overwhelming I can’t get into the story and the characters), but I absolutely fell into this book and did not want to come out. I feel like it’s the kind of book both fantasy novices and pros can really get into and enjoy. And I’m always here for a woman being a badass and that’s definitely what this one is all about.

The Romance Recipe by Ruby Barrett: I am just a huge fan of Ruby’s writing. She brings the steam and the angst (seems to be a theme with this month) and I really enjoyed seeing these two characters find themselves and each other.

That Summer by Jennifer Weiner: Major trigger warning for sexual assault here, but I thought this book was brilliantly done. Jennifer’s books are compulsively readable and this one is no exception.

The Guncle by Steven Rowley: Maybe my favorite book of the month? I laughed, I cried, my heart felt light and happy by the end. It was one of those rare perfect books.

Chef’s Kiss by TJ Alexander: A perfect summer rom com, this one has all the good romance bits along with a storyline that felt really topical and in the moment.

The Merciless Ones by Namina Forna: The Gilded Ones was one of my favorite books of last year, and while this one didn’t hit as hard for me as the first one, it was still really enjoyable and I’m looking forward to seeing how the story ends.

Despite my low numbers, still a month of very good books!
