Well friends, as I somewhat predicted, October ended up being a really light month for me in terms of books read. Probably because I was reading through a million Pitch Wars submissions (totally worth it, they were so brilliant!). But even though I might not have gotten through as many books as a normal month (only thirteen total), I still read some truly amazing books last month and I of course want you all to read them too! Here’s my faves from October!
Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes by Alexa Martin: Complete no-brainer here! Of course I loved Alexa’s book because I love all of Alexa’s books. I really enjoyed her first foray into women’s fiction and I really hope she writes more in this genre because she really nails the complicated dynamics of female friendships in a way most other authors don’t. This book made me laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time, and it was perfect all around. You can read my full review here.
The Widow of Rose House by Diana Biller: After reading this book, I can officially confirm my type is 100% nerds who fuck. Hot damn. I was a little hesitant about this one because ghosts and spooky things are not usually for me, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed all aspects of this book. Especially Sam. Yowza.
The Wedding Ringer by Kerry Rea: This book had me hooked from the very first page. More women’s fiction than romance, I love how this one explored the pain that comes from a friendship breakup, and how it is just as traumatic (sometimes more so) than a relationship breakup. Kerry’s voice is *chef’s kiss* and I can’t wait to see what she does next! You can read my full review here.
The Fastest Way to Fall by Denise Williams: This should also come as no surprise because I was a huge fan of Denise’s debut, How to Fail at Flirting. I really related to Britta in this one and I absolutely loved the epistolary nature of the beginning of this book. Wes is a dream hero and the banter in this one is off the charts! You can read my full review here.
Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney: I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this one! This thriller (which I got as one of my Book of the Month choices–look at me branching out!) kept me guessing and I loved the twist at the end.
Daughters of Sparta by Claire Heywood: If you liked Circe, you will probably like this one. It’s not as steeped in the prose as Circe, but it definitely gave me the same vibes, and it was cool to read this story from the perspective of Helen of Troy and her sister (not gonna lie though, it would have been greatly improved with some on page sex!).
A Lesson in Vengeance by Victoria Lee: I wouldn’t have thought dark academia would be a genre for me, but I might be a convert! This book is completely brilliant and I loved every second of it.
Overall, a pretty solid month of reading, especially considering how much other reading I had to do! What was your favorite October read?
