Alright friends, we are officially one week from Lease on Love being released into the world! No, I’m not hyperventilating or sweating profusely, why do you ask? For real though, I’m obviously super excited and I can’t wait to see my book baby out in the wild! This week I want to share some of the extras with you, so we can all get hyped up for release day! Not going to lie, when my publicity/marketing team asked me to put together a playlist for Lease on Love, I was like uhhhhhh. I literally only listen to Broadway musicals and murder podcasts. Not sure how that is going to work out. But luckily, I have fantastic friends and I immediately texted my bff Ashley for help. She teaches high school so I figured she knows what the kids are listening to these days. Ashley went above and beyond and sent me some truly fabulous songs that her students recommended, and many of those songs combined with my old lady music to create what I think is the perfect playlist. So without further ado, here are the songs that represent Lease on Love to me!
“Wannabe” by the Spice Girls: Look, this one is real simple. If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends is basically Sadie’s life motto. Also, it’s Spice Girls.
“Oh shit…are we in love” by Valley: This turned out to be my favorite discovery in the playlist process. It honestly captures Jack and Sadie perfectly, and it’s just a fun song!
“Jackpot” by Nikki Lane: I love that I was able to find songs for both characters’ nicknames and this song made the list with the line “It was always you” for reasons.
“Sweet Pea” by Amos Lee: Not only is this a nickname song, but it’s adorable and I love it.
“Baby Blue” by Zachary Kibbee: I imagine Jack and Sadie dancing to this in the kitchen at some point. Also Zach is my brother so yay nepotism!
“Always” by Rex Orange County: This is a great song and it pretty perfectly captures Jack who has my whole heart, as you know.
“The Feels” by TWICE: If you’re looking for a bop, then look no further!
“Golden Hour” by Kacey Musgraves: I hadn’t listened to much Kacey because again, I only listen to Broadway, but I fell in love with this song and with her.
“willow” by Taylor Swift: I heard it was illegal to have a romance playlist without a TSwift song so here you go!
“The One” by Backstreet Boys: You heard the part about me being old, yes? Pretty sure all of my playlists will have a boy band number because they’re the best.
“You’re My Best Friend” by Queen: This song suits Jack and Sadie for obvious reasons, but it’s also special to me because it was the recessional song at my wedding and it reminds me of my husband *heart eyes*
I hope you’re not waiting for me to drop a Spotify link or anything because I honestly don’t even know how to do that, but hopefully you check out some of these songs because I really do love them all, and I think they are perfect for Lease on Love!
