Monthly Wrap Up: January 2022

So full disclosure friends, I’m writing this post on February 10th and you know, quite a lot has happened over the past ten days, and honestly I’m going to write this wrap up to the best of my ability, but there’s a good chance all the days are blending together and none of the things I’m writing about actually happened in January. Because what is time, right? And with that stellar intro, let’s take a look back at the events of January!

Reading: Reading was really tough for me in January. My head was just not in the game and despite the extra reading time that comes along with my kiddo going back to school, it was a struggle to finish my TBR this month. That being said, I still read sixteen books, and I really enjoyed most of them. The standouts this month were Would You Rather by Allison Ashley, Delilah Green Doesn’t Care by Ashley Herring Blake, Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid, and The House on the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. If you want to see all of my favorite reads from January, you can find them in one handy location right here! I’m hoping for a much more productive reading month in February!

Writing: I spent the beginning of the month working on the draft of my possible book three. I’m calling it book three, but it’s actually book four because the real book three is holiday book, and this is confusing even for me so I should probably like come up with titles or something. Anyway, neither holiday book or book three–actually let’s call it fake dating book–is officially going to be published as of now, so I’m mostly writing because I can’t not write, and because hopefully they will be published! Drafting is my favorite part of the process and I was having a lot of fun with the fake dating book so I’m looking forward to picking it up again soon. I got my second round of edits back for book two about midway through January and I swear this book is going to kill me. But after a fantastic phone call with my editor, I at least have a plan and maybe by the end of this round of edits I won’t hate this book anymore! Fingers crossed!

Movies and TV: I was not about to risk Omicron exposure to go see any movies in January so all my movie and TV watching happened at home. I’m still struggling with movie watching in general, I just don’t have the bandwidth to sit and do nothing for two hours unless I’m in the theater, but I did rewatch Eternals once it was on Disney+ and I still love it. I’ve also pretty much only been watching Housewives and the Bachelor, both of which are so so messy right now in mostly good ways (Bachelor messiness is veering into toxic and gross). I’m planning on going to see some movies in the theater in February, as long as case numbers stay down and I’m looking forward to getting back to one of my favorite hobbies.

Life Stuff: January was spent getting ready for the launch of my first book, I don’t know what more there is to say! It was nerve-wracking and scary sending my kid back to school in the midst of a huge case spike. Luckily at this point I know we came out of it okay, but it was anxiety-inducing for a few weeks there. I wish the lead up to pub day would have been a bit calmer case numbers wise, but nothing had to be canceled and at this point, that’s a major win. Overall, life stuff is going about as well as it could be right now.

One month of 2022 is in the books, on to the next!
