Monthly Wrap Up: June 2021

As I write this, it is officially July, which means it is officially my birthday month! I’m old now so I don’t actually celebrate my birthday for an entire month, but I do have some fun things planned in July (it’s also our ten year wedding anniversary) that I’m excited for. But first, let’s take a look back at June!
Reading: Even though I read fifteen books in June and most of them were really good, it somehow felt like I didn’t get to enjoy as many as I usually do. Which is weird and also not true, but sometimes our brains like to mess with us. Some of my favorite books of the month were Hang the Moon by Alexandria Bellefleur, The Donut Trap by Julie Tieu, The Shaadi Set-Up by Lillie Vale, Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake by Alexis Hall, A Certain Appeal by Vanessa King, and The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels by India Holton. You can see all of my monthly faves in this post!
Writing: Lease on Love is trucking right along! I finished up my copy edits, which was a surreal experience. Here I was, a former English teacher, thinking I knew how to use commas. How wrong I was! Also, I’m apparently addicted to hyphens. Who knew! I will say, copy editing sex scenes is a whole other level of awkward so thank god that is done. In other LOL news, I have a new pub date! The book is coming at you a whole month earlier than planned, on February 1, 2022. You can preorder it here and add it on goodreads here! As for my second book, I am making good progress on the first draft and am actually hoping to have it finished a tiny bit ahead of schedule (which just means more time to revise revise revise before I have to send it to my editor so it can get revised again and again!). Overall, June was a somewhat frantic, but productive month in terms of writing.
Movies and TV: Guys, I actually went and saw a movie in the theater! It wasn’t my first movie back since the pandemic (I of course had to make a special trip to see Sebastian Stan’s movie Monday) but it was my first time back at my home theater. I reactivated my AMC A-List membership and I’m excited for movies to pick back up again. I saw In the Heights and freaking loved the entire thing. It was just two and a half hours of joy and talent and heartbreak and love and it was perfect. I have almost finished my entire binge of the Drag Race Cinematic Universe, which makes me sad, but luckily All Stars season six is now releasing on streaming so I’m getting my weekly dose. I’ve also been watching Loki (duh) and I still don’t know what the hell is going on half the time, but I’m here for it.
Life Stuff: I don’t know what I have new to report here, other than being back to “real life” has provided its challenges. We now have to account for schedules again and childcare again and I did not miss that part of life at all. But we’re making it work! I’m just keeping my fingers eternally crossed that we are able to go back to school full time in the fall. Please please please please please! The other new life addition is being able to actually see friends in person again. We took a mini vacay with some friends of ours in June, and I was able to meet my writing bestie in person for the first time, and we have been able to see some of our local friends in small groups and it has been nice to have human interaction with someone other than my husband and kid. All in all, I can’t complain too much!
Cheers to a productive June and a happy July!
