Monthly Wrap Up: May 2021

Hi friends and happy June! Here we are again, just truckin’ through the year like time can’t stop won’t stop. Which I think, overall, is a good thing yes? We would like time to continue marching on, even if it seems to be flying by at an exorbitantly high rate. Before I fully immerse myself in the summer months, it’s time to take a look back at May!

Reading: I read eighteen books in May, partially thanks to my Mother’s Day trip to Palm Springs which was spent mostly reading and watching crime shows on my hotel room TV (#livingthedream). I’ll have more details on my favorite reads of the month next week, but some of my standouts were Like Lovers Do by Tracey Livesay, Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q Sutanto, Heartbreak for Hire by Sonia Hartl, Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardguo, and The Housewives by Brian Moylan. So many good beachy/pool day reads!

Writing: Lots has been happening in behind the scenes book land so May wasn’t as much about writing as it was about finishing edits and working on my outline for book two. My idea for book two has been officially approved so now I am going to be focusing on drafting, which I’m super excited about as it’s my favorite part of the writing process! I love getting to take the ideas in my head and put them on the page. So much Lease on Love stuff is happening that there will probably be new information by the time this post actually goes live, but for now, you can totally add it on goodreads and if you want to keep up with the latest happs, make sure you sign up for my newsletter!

Movies and TV: My life lately has mostly consisted of bingeing every season I can of anything RuPaul’s Drag Race related. I’ve made it through every season of the show (currently finishing up season 12, but will definitely be done by the time this goes live) and the first four seasons of All Stars. It just makes me happy and I can’t get enough. I’ve also rewatched Falcon and Winter Soldier more than once for…research. I am excited to say I finally reactivated my AMC Stubs membership and am planning on seeing my second movie in the theater post quarantine (the first was Monday starring Sebastian Stan, which I had to travel to an indie theater to see, which was totally worth it because Sebastian Stan) when In the Heights comes out this month! I can’t wait to go back to the movies!

Life Stuff: I guess the biggest news here is both Matt and I are officially back to work! I coordinated my first real post quarantine wedding over Memorial Day weekend and Matt has started back at Disneyland (currently in lots and lots of rehearsals). It’s perfect timing for him to be gone five days a week since the kid is done with school and  I have book two draft due in two months (sobs)! Honestly, there are highs and lows to us going back to “real” life. It means financial stability, which is of course a good thing, but it also means dealing with our competing schedules and trying to find time together and with our kid and trying to find childcare and it’s a lot. I didn’t miss that part of life during lockdown, not going to lie. But we will find a way to make it work!

2021 continues to be a rollercoaster of emotions and experiences, but I am finding so much to be thankful for and excited about! Now wish me luck as I attempt to go write another book!
