Monthly Wrap Up: October 2021

Here we are friends, another month bites the dust! By the time you read this November will already be a third of the way over which is banana pants. How is the time moving so fast and why does it continue to surprise me month after month? Nevertheless, it’s time to look back at the month of October and see the happs!

Reading: October was a slow month for books (only thirteen total), but that’s because I spent the majority of the month reading through all the Pitch Wars submissions we received, which was so fun and overwhelming at the same time. I never expected so many people to submit to #TeamForearmsAndAbs and I was blown away by the quality of the submissions overall. Honestly, it was so hard to narrow down our picks and to choose our mentee because everyone was just so good! But our mentee has now been chosen (yay!) and my reading life should return to normal this month (hopefully). If you want to see my favorite reads of the month, you can read all about them here!

Writing: In addition to reading through PW subs, I was also smack dab in the middle of revisions for book two in October. I turned them in during the first week of November so much of October was spent making last minute fixes and changes. I’m still feeling not super confident about book two as a whole, but I’m hoping that after this round of edits, it’s at least an improvement. I think there are many more rounds of edits in my future, so pray for me friends! In more exciting news, I got to have my first video chat with my publicity team (holy shit I have a publicity team!) and it is blowing my mind that people? want to? read my book? Things are ramping up as the release date for Lease on Love grows closer and I am equal parts terrified and thrilled.

Movies and TV: I finally made it to the theater to see Shang-Chi in October and I thought it was so good! Probably some of the best fight scenes we’ve seen in the MCU and I thought as an origin story, it was up at the top of the list. I also watched a lot of Ted Lasso (duh) and was living for the four part Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion (Erika, I cannot even, how is one person so un-self aware?). I’m also very invested in the new season of Great British Bake Off, as per usual.

Life Stuff: October continued the theme of holy shit how am I so busy?!?!?! I seriously went from eighteen months of no work to having the busiest stretch of weddings and bookings that I’ve had in my ten year career. It was a lot, and thankfully things are slowing down a bit so I’m getting a bit of a breather. The most exciting part of October was, of course, my trip to New York, which you can read all about here. It felt so good to be traveling again, and it was honestly one of the greatest moments of the past couple years to sit in a Broadway theater again. Legit tearing up just thinking about it! So much good life stuff is happening, and it’s also exhausting and overwhelming and stressful and I’m just hoping to make it through!

Thank you for hanging out with me for another month, and cheers to November!
